ABOUT THIS ADVENTURE
If you live in Southern California there’s no escaping two words right now –
SUPER BLOOM
What is #superbloom!? Beyond blowing up Instagram and being “the cool thing to do” over the weekend, it’s the trending phrase used to describe the abundance of wildflowers currently all over SoCal due to heavy winter rains. Perfect for hiking, picnics and camping – if you want to see it for yourself, act fast!
I was inspired to check out Super Bloom about a week ago when I saw my friend Sarah’s travel blog post on Facebook about her camping trip to Anza Borrego Desert State Park – located about 3 hours east of Los Angeles, 2 hours north of San Diego and 1 hour south of Palm Springs. On Travel Meow, Sarah shared great info on how to explore Anza Borrego in Borrego Springs, California (use it).
After going, here’s my big Super Tip – with summer fast approaching, make sure to manage your expectations and Super Bloom hype. From all the talk, I imagined showing up to Anza Borrego and walking through Wizard of Oz-like fields of blooming flowers. It may have been like before, but wasn’t when I went. Regardless, it was still beautiful checking out pops of color in what is typically barren desert. My favorite part was having the ability to camp anywhere in Anza Borrego Desert State Park! I felt completely secluded and the starry sky rivaled what I once experienced in the Australian Outback.
